Azirah Hashim is Professor Emeritus at Universiti Malaya affiliated with the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics and the Asia-Europe Institute. She researches on language policy and language education in Southeast Asia, English in multilingual contexts and higher education in ASEAN. She has led and been involved in several ASEAN  and ASEAN-EU projects such as the Erasmus+ CBHE project on research governance and research methodology training in Malaysia and Laos, the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence project on EU and ASEAN in Dialogue and leadership in higher education in ASEAN.  She is on the advisory committee for the Vice-chancellor on Universiti Malaya’s Global Alliances. She is also currently President of the International Association of Applied Linguistics (AILA) and started the AILA ASEAN regional network to promote networking and collaboration among applied linguists.
