Horizon Southeast Asia:
Pushing the Frontiers of Research and Sustainability.
With result of renewed collaboration between SEAMEO RIHED and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in 2022, the project under SEAMEO RIHED’s Programme on Enhancing Capacities for Collective Learning and Continuous Development of Higher Education Institutions in the SEAMEO Region entitled “Horizon Southeast Asia: Pushing the Frontiers of Research and Sustainability was funded through the DAAD’s SDG-Partnership Programme from 2022-2025 and co-implemented by Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Unversity Consortium including Svay Rieng University, Cambodia, the National University of Laos, Lao PDR, East Yangon University, Myanmar, Mae Fah Luang University , Thailand, Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa’e,Timor-Leste, Thuyloi University, Vietnam, the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, Germany, and SEAMEO RIHED to develop sustainable research ecosystems and contribute to a more sustainable future in Southeast Asia.
The project has been designed to support Sustainable Research Ecosystems in Higher Education Institutions in the GMS and Timor-Leste to generate relevant research impacts for sustainable future of SEAMEO region, through 2 areas:
- Research Governance, so as to enhance leadership capacity and strengthen the research governance and management structures of participating HEIs in the GMS and Timor Leste
- Capacity Enhancement for Researchers, so as to foster joint-research collaboration through the development of new research programmes and projects in thematic areas concerning Sustainable Development.
By considering the region’s common challenges encountered and needs for more sustainable research ecosystems and enhanced research capacity towards sustainable development, SEAMEO RIHED, in partnership with the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, has facilitated the collaboration between 25 universities across the GMS and Timor-Leste through a series of activities such as the Regional Leadership Forum and Workshop, Researcher Networking Forum, Researcher Exchange Programme, series of Virtual Enrichment Days (online collective sharing talk) aimed at both pillars of the project over the course of the next 4 years, and DAAD-SEAMEO RIHED Research Leadership Excellence Programme for nominated research leaders in the GMS and Timor Leste to work with universities in Germany and the development of 3 collaborative regional research networks around the themes of climate change, collaborative river governance and management, and sustainable agricultural production.
